This drug is called apixaban, and it is also called atripla and is a direct-acting anticoagulant. Like many anticoagulant drugs it stops blood clotting by binding and neutralising thrombin. It is currently being used to treat patients with atrial fibrillation, but it’s possible that it could also be used in other types of vascular disease.
If this were FDA approval, it would be a great way to prevent blood clots. It’s also not a blood thinning drug, and does not have the risk of hemorrhagic side effects that can come with some medications. The drug is designed to stop the clotting of blood vessels in the body, which is the cause of most cardiovascular disease. So the drug would be a great ally for people who have vascular disease or even heart disease in the future.
I guess the biggest problem with it is that it has not been shown to be effective for the treatment of heart disease. Still, if it were FDA approval, it would be a great way to prevent blood clots.
Most of the heart disease drugs, as well as the drug that stops blood clotting, are quite effective. But they only work for a specific type of heart disease. If you have an otherwise healthy heart, they’re all a waste of time. If you have heart disease, it’s better to know if you have the potential for a clot before you start taking a medication that could cause you to bleed and die.
