physical therapy for stroke patients at home
I had a stroke at age 21. It was a terrible accident that left me paralyzed from the waist down. My experience with a physical therapist has been completely positive. I have been able to do things that I never thought I could do. For example, I have been able to sit in a chair completely without getting up.
I remember sitting in a chair for five minutes, fully upright, and then falling off, feeling like I had a weight on my back that I had to carry. I was totally exhausted. I had a bunch of muscles in my neck that were so tight they felt like they were breaking. I think I might not have been able to eat for a month, but I have a feeling that will be back. I also remember feeling very dizzy, and my speech seemed to be very slurred.
A lot of people who’ve been in a car accident and not gotten injured are now walking around and barely able to walk. The truth is you can’t really do anything about it. If you aren’t injured in a car accident, you are at risk for having to rely on a wheelchair to get around. In fact, when you have a stroke you will be dependent on a wheelchair for pretty much the rest of your life, and that’s not good.
In many cases, people will not feel well enough to go to the doctor for a checkup. And even if they do, they will have to take a bunch of pills to get out of the hospital and back home. You can’t tell the difference, and people will just take whatever they can get.
