A lot of what you think is foodie food in the US is actually really bad food. I mean, you’d think that if you ate bad food, you’d at least like it and appreciate it, right? Well, not really.
For the last twenty years or so, the food we’ve consumed has gotten better. I’m thinking of the days when we were kids when we had our own food pantry where we would take whatever we wanted and we’d try to make it good. But that’s not the case now. We are in a world where junk food is all the rage.
It is in a world of junk food. Everywhere. It’s not just junk food in the supermarket, its everywhere. The latest trend in food, a trend that will go unchecked for the next decade in the US, is “fresh food.” I mean, a lot of people think fresh is all about the local produce, but they fail to realize fresh food is about a lot more than that.
Fresh food has always been a big deal in the country. It’s been around since the 1950s and is now a bigger part of our diet than most people realize. The US Department of Agriculture has declared that the average person eats a whopping 1.9 pounds of processed food per year. That is more than twice the amount of fresh produce in the country.
The food-to-be-eaten analogy is a bit of a stretch (it’s not exactly fresh food because it’s not prepared by farmers, but we can use it to make a point), but I think that fresh food is a good metaphor for the kind of food we eat. We eat a lot of processed food, and most of it is made with chemicals. It’s a form of food that is not very clean.
We tend to forget that processed food is a form of food that is made with chemicals. People are being killed by processed food because it is not good for them. Even the very well-meaning commercials with all the ingredients, the amount of time spent on the cooking, and the amount of calories you burn are a form of food that we are being encouraged to avoid.
The same goes for many of the products that we buy. Most of the food that we buy is processed. So even though we know the truth about a product, it does not necessarily mean that we should eat that product.
You could probably make a list of every single processed food that we eat and not even write a paragraph about it. We’re not sure why we need a paragraph about that. It would probably be better to just read the label.
Well, the truth is that we still choose what we eat. There are many reasons why we buy something, whether it’s for a specific purpose or not. Some people will say to themselves, “I’m going to eat that salad.” Others might say, “I’m going to eat that pizza.” But many times, we don’t know what we’re going to get. But that’s okay.
